Pest Control RatsRats – Rats are a world wide pest, spreading disease and causing structural damage. The Norway Rat is most commonly found in Europe. A less commonly found species is the Black Rat and is largely restricted to port areas.

Fur colour is brown/black on upper head & body, grey or off white underneath. Excellent sense of hearing, taste and smell. They have poor eyesight and are colour blind. Life span is approx. 9/18 months and they are sexually mature at the age of 2/3 months. They have up to 7 litters a year, with each producing between 8/10 offspring.

Pest Control MiceMice – Mice have a lot in common with the rat, but differences in it’s biology and behaviour are the key to effective control. They are rarely found in sewers as they prefer to live indoors, causing damage to buildings.

Fur colour is brownish grey but lighter shades occur. Excellent sense of hearing, taste and smell. They have poor eyesight and are colour-blind. Life span is approx. 9/12 months and they are sexually mature at the age of 6 weeks. They have up to 8 litters a year, with each producing between 5/6 offspring.

Pest Control WaspsWasps – Wasps are regarded as nuisance pests or a threat to health. They can become a problem when they enter premises handling food. Foodstuffs can become contaminated and people may be stung.

Up to 30mm long, eyes are kidney shaped. They have two pairs of wings, hind wings being smaller than the fore wings and their mouth parts are adapted for chewing and licking. The abdomen is constricted at the base giving the impression of a waist.

Pest Control Bed BugsBed Bugs – Adult bedbugs are 4-5 mm in length, wingless and uniformly mahogany in colour. They have well developed walking legs with efficient tarsal claws for clinging onto the host during feeding.

Female bedbugs lay eggs throughout their life. They generally produce around 2 to 3 per day and since they can live for many weeks, indeed months, each female could produce 400-500 eggs during their lifetime. Eggs are deposited all around the environment in which they live and are small and white or whitish/yellow about 1 mm long.

The close association of bedbugs with human beings means that they can cause substantial nuisance through their blood feeding habit. They feed at night on the human hosts as they sleep.

If the infestation is high there can be a risk of anaemia being suffered by the human hosts, although this is rare. The nuisance and itching caused by the bites and the possibility of secondary infection is more common. Cats, chickens and other domesticated animals may also be attacked.

Pest Control FleasFleas – The cat flea is small at around 2 mm long, reddish brown in colour and is flattened laterally, a feature which enables it to move easily amongst the hair of its vertebrate host. They have large jumping legs and its mouth parts are adapted for piercing and sucking.

They can host Tape Worm which can be passed to cat, dogs and humans in particular young children.
